Eryn, Freelancers Smuggler | Union Citizen, Lighter side of criminal underworld, perpetuates trafficking of illicit substances, prefers to avoid violence | Early Life
Eryn was born to a lower-class Union family working hard labor in several Union neighboring colonies. His mother passed away due to complications during a cesarean section, leading him to grow up with a father who was often too fatigued to parent in a classical sense. For this reason Eryn grew up outside, spending most of his time on the streets with the few other tunnel rats and orphans on the colonies he followed his father to as he pursued work.
The Union is a largely democratically focused faction with strong beliefs in the necessity of preserving and maintaining sovereignty, equity, and equality as much as possible, even if it causes consecutive inconveniences. The focus on and prioritization on the value of life and liberty necessitated the prohibitions of substances antagonistic to healthy living. Drawing on many of these values, but also taking some intellectual liberties, Eryn and company focused on the freedom to do whatever an individual pleases with the moral caveat that unimpeded actions must not cause detriment to others whenever possible. Therefore, from a standpoint naively considering only freedom of action and not precipitating effects on others, drug use is permissible under these moral criterion.
Understanding that the trafficking of illegal substances could be a highly lucrative endeavor, Eryn used his network of fellow ne'er-do-wells and his understanding of his fellow man to begin supplying and distributing illegal substances wholesale within his local colonies, with portions of the generated revenue occasionally being allocated to civil relief for impoverished workers within the colonies they operate in.
While Eryn's empire continued to grow and include more Union colonies his ambition to continue growing began to outweigh his initial intention to provide a better life for himself and the impoverished. He still maintained these relief efforts but the priority fell to the wayside as he continued to posture his operations for growth and expansion.
|
Ambition | Grand Strategist |
Eryn's trafficking empire has enjoyed such dominant growth due to his refusal to cut his drugs with dangerous substances to cut costs because he does not wish to hurt anyone with careless business practice."I mean come on, I'm not a criminal." |

Varrick, Foreman of the Cradle of Power | Federation Allegiance, Respects Empire Forces, Apathetic toward Union Forces | Varrick was born into a Federation Mercantile Family that generationally chronicled their family's proud legacy as House Gaille, Foremen of the Largest Federation Quantum Mining Operation during the Quantum Wars that devastated the Sol System. His family was charged with extricating quantum in mass quantities during this time and the proximity to Empire forces as a galactic border mining operation hardened the men of the Cradle of Power as they were forged in the crucible of Empire onslaughts. The Cradle of Power saw a frequent rotation of forces and miners as both were routinely injured, killed, or required transfer of stations due to chronic stress and mental condition.
Despite so many years having passed, the men of House Gaille have chronicled their legacy, passing down core values and beliefs generationally. As such, Varrick has a stern temperament weathered by a rowdy spirit roused to the surface when celebrating over drink in good company. The men of his house are renowned for their inhuman strength, likely a product of wielding the massive Gaille warpick once used to cleave veins of quantum from the geode-like Rogue Planet Vulcan.
The House Gaille Warpick shows evidence of its routine use in harvesting quantum, harboring vein-like markings along the beak of the pick from which a feint, deep purplish-blue glow emanates. Atop the business end of the warpick is a small bullhorn, discrete in size and shape that the Foremen of house Gaille once used to rouse their men to battle in defense of the Cradle of Power. The storied history of the House Gaille Warpick as it passed down through the hands of the eldest sons (or surviving next of kin over the years) as well as it's anomalous appearance have led to House Gaille recognizing it as a symbol of power: Any member of house Gaille bestowed with the honor of wielding it are followed with unwavering, near-fanatical devotion, following all orders with fullhearted compliance and an overwhelming positivity.
Vulcan was another routine sensing operation. House Gaille sent an extractor to determine if the planet might harbor minerals of value to sell off to Federation merchant ships or possibly to the Federation Forces. Vulcan harbored a temperate duality: As a rogue planet it drifted through the Milky Way without any gravitational partnership to a star to receive warmth from giving it a frigid, icy crust. The Cradle of Power was formed after fracking techniques were used to blast a massive sheet of ice off of roughly 1/5th of the planet's surface. It was in this newly turned face that House Gaille discovered large quantities of Quantum and inexplicable lava flows running throughout. The dual temperature imposed severe workplace hazards with workers occasionally severely injured or killed by cave-ins, uncorking another lava flow, or equipment failures resulting in life-threatening hypothermia at the planet's surface. |

Pelagius Bogdan, Revolutionary Confessor | Empire Chaplain, Vigilant Servant to the Martyrium of the Great Empyrean Leader, and Leader of a small but growing sect of Imperial Citizens who prefer faith and meticulously careful abstinence of sin over martial achievement | Pelagius was born the son of a beggar family too poor to afford subsistence for their growing family. Pelagius lived a humble youth, sitting around wearing rags, begging for alms to survive through each week. Ever awestruck by his father's unwavering faith in the Great Tapestry's plan for his life despite routinely seeing the looks of disgust of passing citizens who often chose to avoid and ignore the struggling Bogdan family, Pelagius grew up a steadfast devotion to the tenets of faith bestowed upon him by both his father's instruction as well as observation of his father's resolve and consistent faith in the good of Mankind. Despite the faith and stoicisms Pelagius was raised with and critically aware of the judgement the youths of his city passed unto him for the family he was born from, young Pelagius felt a longing to be more than the young boy of one of the town's shameful beggar families.
After Pelagius' father passed away of illness borne of lack of healthcare and an infrequent diet of which he generally passed to feed his family first. Taking from the lessons taught by his father and forced by circumstance: Pelagius saw conscription into the Imperial Military as a means of solving his family's issues. He was reluctant at first but realized it was an opportunity for him to provide for his siblings and his mother, so he joined the Imperial Legion.
Shortly after conscription, his gentle nature and aversion to violence led to his transfer to the Chaplain College where the Empire could make better use of him. After several years of faithful service to several Legions of the Empire's forces, a Legatus stopped to speak to him in thanks for the support offered to his men and recommended him for consideration to serve in honor of one of the Capital's holy sites. Shortly after arriving at the Capital City, he was judged alongside several other devout men of the cloth before a board comprised of the heads of several Noble houses within the Empire capital and several holy men of prestige. It was determined that Pelagius was most suitable to join the Servants of the Pantheon for his plainness of dress, upbringing divested from excess or greed, warmth of heart despite an unforgiving childhood, stoic faith in the face of lifelong hardships to date, and faithful service to the Empire, free from the rousings of violence many soldiers are so frequently spurred to in the battlefield. It was here he found respite in the opportunity to watch over one of the cities Martyriums built to retroactively honor the commander of the Empire's forces during the Great War centuries ago. Granted the highest honor a man of his profession might hope to receive, Pelagius felt a great pride stirring in his chest. He hoped his father could see the man he had become and the life he had been able to provide to his now late siblings and mother during his decades of service.
Empire nobles have taken note of the teachings now Confessor Bogdan would present before audiences that would gather at the edge of the courtyard nearest the Courthouse Church. Teachings of devout service in credulous support of the will of the Grand Tapestry. While he has not taken any radical actions which would contradict Empire leadership or orders, he has still made some nobles nervous with the following amassing outside the church that grows with each day cycle. Some nobles have voiced fears that Confessor Bogdan might be seeking to wrest the jurisdiction of the Apostolic See and convey the teachings of "The Grand Tapestry" alongside the teachings of the Holy See, intermingling them in a "most perverse" manner. |
